Did the MAK-90 start out with these and then have them ground off due to the import ban. I noticed on photographs I found of Norinco AK47s the factory stamp and serial number are located in this area. On closer inspection, if you hold it just right you can see that the receiver apperas to have been ground, polished, and re-blued in front of the serial number and at the left rear where the import stamp is located. I took a look at mine and noticed it has a five digit number with nothing that looks like a born on date at the beginning. stamped as a prefix to the serial number or as the first two numbers in the serial number. I have a nice MAK-90 that I purchased a couple of years ago and never gave it's manufacture date much thought but the other day I was asked and I said, that's easy it will have 91, 92, 93 etc. That in fact may be the answer to my question. I have heard it said that the only thing consistent with Norinco in general and the MAK-90 in particular is that nothing is consistent.
